Chara is one of six kids and grew up in Grand Blanc, MI. She learned from a young age that life will only be what you make it. Based on that philosophy, she raised money during middle school and high school to play club volleyball and go to summer volleyball camps, overcame a torn ACL, and ignored many opinions that she was too short to play volleyball at a high level or hit front row.
All of this paid off upon a scholarship to Grand Valley State University where she pursued a degree in Biology, French, and secondary education at GVSU and helped lead the volleyball team to its first three Elite Eight appearances, three Conference Championships, three Regional Championships, and two Final Four finishes. Chara also earned All-Conference and All-Region honors for two consecutive years, and Academic All-American honors for three consecutive years.
Soon after graduating from Grand Valley, she moved to Florida where she began teaching and started pursuing professional beach volleyball.
