We love the holidays as much as anyone, but sometimes the post-holiday food coma leaves us feeling sluggish and run down. All the rich foods that your family made and the delicious cakes and desserts were so worth it, we know! After the holidays are said and done, we like to jump back into training right by starting off with a clean slate. This includes cleansing our palette, eating right, and getting our head back in the game! Check out these top notch tips we’ve compiled for a post-holiday, healthy athlete cleanse that’s good for the mind, body, and soul!
Keep hydrated
Water is everything! Don’t forget, it makes up the bulk of your body and most of us certainly do not get enough in our daily diet to begin with. This is a prime time to cut out soda and sugary drinks for awhile and to focus on upping your water intake. Plus, the more water you drink, the better toxins will be able to flush out of you’re system.
Eat simply
After eating all those holiday goodies, your stomach definitely wants you to feed it something it can recognize. Try to choose foods that have few and simple ingredients for the first few days after the holiday feasts. This will help get your body back to equilibrium faster, so you can get back to training regime, full swing.
Clean house
The season of gifting is upon us, which means more stuff all around! Taking the time to go through what you already have and get rid of the things you don’t use or need will help you feel more like you are turning over a new leaf. Out with the old and in with the new!
Get a massage
Massage therapy is one of the most commonly known ways of detoxing the body, improving your lymphatic system, and getting your blood moving. Releasing tension and toxins from your muscles is important for keeping your body ready for professional play. Plus, what better way to treat yourself after the stressful holiday season!
Make things interesting
Try taking up a new cross training or conditioning practice can add a new dynamic to your training schedule and make it more interesting. Spicing up your training regimen can totally reinvigorate your body and get you sweating in a way your body doesn’t normally. We suggest yoga, pilates, cycling, or boxing.
